The University of Kentucky men’s golf team finished in ninth place at the SEC Men’s Golf Tournament, being played at the par-70 Sea Side Golf Course, on Sunday. The Cats shot a third-round 289 to finish with a 59-over par 899 for the weekend. Kentucky finished eighth in last year’s tournament, which was held at the same venue. Florida won the tournament with a 16-over 856, while defending champion Auburn finished six strokes behind in second place with an 862. Georgia finished third with an 866, Tennessee was fourth with an 870 and South Carolina rounded out the top five with an 875.

Mark Blakefield finished in 28th place with a three day 222, 12-over par, to lead Kentucky. John Holmes was one stroke behind in 29th with a 13-over 223. Brandon Waldrop finished in 43rd with a 228, while Matt Kohn with a 230 and Ryan Coyne with a 239, finished 46th and 55th respectively.

Florida’s Brett Stegmaier fired a final-round 64 to overcome Georgia’s Kevin Kisner, who had led for the first two days, and win individual honors with a three-day, 7-under par 203 for the tournament. Kisner finished second at six-under. Auburn’s Will Claxton finished in third at even par and Tennessee’s Andrew Pratt finished fourth at one-over. Three other players finished tied for fifth at 4-over par.

This was Kentucky’s final tournament before selections are made for the NCAA regional championships, which will begin on Thursday, May 15.
