AUBURN, Alabama – Alex Goff, a senior on the Kentucky men’s golf team, carded a 1-under-par 71 to tie for sixth after the opening round of the NCAA Auburn Regional Monday at Auburn University Club. Goff sits three strokes back of co-leaders Christoph Bleier of Colorado State and John Houk of Chattanooga after the two each posted an opening-round 4-under 68.
Goff will be back on the course for the second round at 11:34 a.m. ET Tuesday.
The low five teams and low individual from a non-advancing team at the Regional will earn a trip to Scottsdale, Arizona, for the NCAA Championship May 26-31 at Grayhawk Golf Club.
Goff opened with a bogey on the par-4 first hole but bounced right back with a birdie at the par-4 second. The senior then bogeyed the par-3 fifth but again responded with a birdie at the par-4 sixth. After six-consecutive pars, Goff birdied the par-5 13th and concluded his round with five-straight pars. Through the first 18 holes, Goff is tied for third in the 75-competitor field in par-4 scoring at 1-under.
The round marked Goff’s team-high 23rd round of par or better this season, including a team-best 20 under-par. Goff has been able to put together 17 rounds of par or better in his last 19 played.
