BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – As announced by the Southeastern Conference office on Tuesday afternoon, Avery Giese is SEC Co-Diver of the Week and Falemana Tuufui has been named SEC Co-Freshman of the Week.
This past weekend, the Wildcats traveled to Nashville, Tenn. to take on the No. 24 Aggies of Texas A&M. The men’s squad was victorious in the meet, taking it 193-107, while the women narrowly lost 151-147 to Texas A&M. This was the first time in 20 years that the Wildcats men’s squad had defeated SEC foe Texas A&M in a dual-meet, with the last time being in 2006.
Giese, a sophomore diver from San Clemente, Calif., is coming off an impressive summer with USA Diving. She had a super strong performance this past Friday, winning two events to help the Cats score. On the 3M dive she secured the event win with 282.38. On the platform dive, it was a 264.98 that snagged the second event win for the dive Wildcats.
Tuufui, a native of Briey, France, has received his second SEC honor so far this season, winning SEC Freshman of the Week back on November 11, 2025. Breaking his own 50 free program record three times, Tuufui is not only dominating the pool in Lexington, but seemingly everywhere he goes.
At that meet, Tuufui swept the 50 free and 100 free, resetting the program record for the 50 free in 19.19. Known as the fastest swimmer in school history, freshman Tuufui has also contributed to the success of the relay teams, swimming in the anchor of the 200 medley relay in an astonishing 18.90 time.
Giese, Tuufui, and the rest of the Wildcats will return to the pool for senior night next week on Jan. 30 at the Lancaster Aquatic Center at 5 p.m.
