Kentucky Women’s Golf Earns WGCA All-Scholar Team

LEXINGTON, Ky. – The University of Kentucky women’s golf team was named one of 25 Women’s Golf Coaches Association All-Scholar Teams, it was announced by the WGCA on Wednesday.

The Wildcats had the 12th-best grade-point average in Division I, boasting a 3.902 GPA as a team in 2024-25. The Cats had a record year in the classroom, not only leading all 23 teams in the athletic department in the fall (3.92 GPA) and the spring (3.879 GPA) but also setting a new department record with its 3.92.

Just two weeks ago, four teammates were named WGCA All-American Scholars, including sophomore Cathryn Brown, freshman Karlie Campbell, freshman Anastasia Hekkonen and freshman Brooke Oberparleiter. It marked Brown’s and Oberparleiter’s second straight appearance on the esteemed list, while it is Campbell’s and Hekkonen’s first. Meanwhile, all seven teammates earned Southeastern Conference academic honors in 2024-25.

Kentucky, while young, earned a 291.3 stroke average last season, the fifth-best stroke average in program history. The lineup collected two finishes inside the top five, including second place at the Bettie Lou Evans Invitational last September and third place at the Paradise Invitational in February.

Moreover, two underclassmen earned SEC Weekly Honors during the spring season, a testament to their gradual improvement, including Campbell (SEC Freshman of the Week) and Brown (SEC Golfer of the Week).

The Wildcats will return to campus in late August, with their fall season teeing off early September. The roster includes six returners and two newcomers in Samantha Paradise, a junior transfer out of Daytona State College, and Maggie Carlson, an incoming freshman from Inverness, Illinois. The Cats have been on the prowl this summer, with Brown winning the Kentucky Women’s Amateur and C.A. Carter earning runner-up. Campbell qualified for the 125th U.S. Women’s Amateur, while Hekkonen has won two tournaments already, including the Finnish PGA Tour opener and the Finnish Junior Tour 2 by six shots.
