
Kentucky STUNT Splits Pair of Games in National Tournament
NASHVILLE. – The Kentucky STUNT team won its opening-round game in the Division I STUNT National Championship on Thursday before falling in game two.
Kentucky opened Thursday’s action with 15-0 win over UT Martin. However, the Cats dropped the nightcap, falling to four-time defending national champion California Baptist 14-4.
The Cats dominated the first game of the day, winning all four points in the first period, partner stunts. In the second quarter, UK was strong again, winning all four points in the pyramids and tosses frame and taking an 8-0 lead into the half.
Kentucky continued to roll in the third quarter, jumps and tumbling, again claiming all four points and taking a 12-0 lead in the process. In the fourth quarter, team routine, the Cats earned three points on the first routine to take a 15-0 lead. Since it was mathematically impossible for UT Martin to catch up, the game ended at that point.
In game two, California Baptist jumped out to an early lead by winning the first two routines. After UK won the third routine, the Lancers won the fourth and held a 3-1 lead after one quarter.
In quarter two, the teams tied the first routine before CBU won the second. The teams would tie the third routine but the Lancers won the fourth routine and held a 7-3 lead at the half.
CBU scored the first three points of the third quarter before the teams tied the final routine. The Lancers led 11-4 after three periods. California Baptist won the first three points of the fourth quarter to end the game.
Kentucky returns to action on Friday, again facing Mercyhurst. Game time is set for 9:45 a.m. ET. If the Cats win, they would advance to Friday’s championship game against California Baptist at 2:45 p.m. ET.
