Kentucky Welcomes No. 19 Louisville for Rivalry Game
LEXINGTON, Ky. – Riding the high of a road series victory over a top three team nationally, the Kentucky Baseball team returns to Kentucky Proud Park on Tuesday night for the back half of its home-and-home series against No. 19 Louisville.
First pitch is at 6:30 p.m. ET on the SEC Network+ and audio will air on the UK Sports Network, UKathletics.com app and 630 AM in Lexington.
The Cats (22-15, 8-10 Southeastern Conference) pitched their way to an impressive series victory at Tennessee over the weekend, pushing their RPI into the top 30 nationally against the nation’s seventh-toughest schedule. To date, only Vanderbilt and this weekend’s opponent, South Carolina, have played more of the coveted Quad 1 contests.
The starting pitcher duo of Nic McCay (Saturday) and Ben Cleaver (Sunday) combined to allow just two earned runs (three total) in 14.2 innings over the weekend. They allowed seven hits, walked four and struck out 19. It was a group effort offensively as the Cats went with youth for much of the weekend. The Cats also stole 16 bases in 18 attempts on Saturday and Sunday.
In the first meeting on April 7 in Louisville the Cardinals scored a 4-3 walk-off victory in 10 innings after the Cats took the lead in extras.
