
Buesseler, Dorsey Nominated for SEC Boyd McWhorter Award
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Ally Buesseler of the Kentucky rifle team and Logan Dorsey of the Wildcat’s men’s soccer squad have been nominated for the H. Boyd McWhorter Scholar-Athlete Post-Graduate Scholarship by the University of Kentucky.
The H. Boyd McWhorter Scholar-Athlete Post-Graduate Scholarship has been presented by the Southeastern Conference since 1986 to the league’s top male and female scholar-athletes.
The Southeastern Conference will name the 2025 recipients of the H. Boyd McWhorter Scholar-Athlete Post-Graduate Scholarship in early May.
Highlights of Kentucky’s nominees include:
ALLY BUESSELER – RIFLE
Major: Elementary Education
- Helped Kentucky win the 2022 NCAA Rifle National Championship
- Posted a perfect 100 score in final frame as UK’s last shooter, securing the 2022 title
- Won the 2022 GARC Air Rifle Individual Championship
- Helped UK to a second-place finish at the 2025 national championship
- Competed at national championships in 2023 and 2024, helping UK to two top-four finishes
- Member of UK’s Frank G. Ham Society of Character
- 2022, 2023, 2024 SEC Academic Honor Roll
- Will graduate in May with a degree in Elementary Education
LOGAN DORSEY – MEN’S SOCCER
Major: Psychology
- Academic All-America as selected by College Sports Communicators
- Scholar All-America as selected by the United Soccer Coaches
- Graduated in 2024 with a degree in Psychology
- Named All-Southeast Region
- First-team all-conference and also picked to the all-conference tournament team
- Led Kentucky with 14 goals during his senior season, including five game-winning scores
- First player in school history with two hat tricks in the same season
- Named NCAA Player of the Week following hat trick vs. Coastal Carolina
- Helped the Wildcats advance to the second round of the NCAA Tournament during his junior season
- Selected by Minnesota United in the 2025 Major League Soccer SuperDraft
The SEC provides the league’s male and female McWhorter Scholar-Athlete of the Year Post-Graduate Scholarship recipients with a $20,000 post-graduate scholarship. The remaining nominees for the award will also receive a $10,000 post-graduate scholarship.
The award recipients are chosen by a committee of Faculty Athletics Representatives from the 16 SEC institutions and are announced in May, as well as honored by the league membership at SEC Spring Meetings in Destin, Fla.
Last year’s McWhorter Award recipients were Elizabeth Franklin from Arkansas and Lukas Engelhardt from Ole Miss.
Kentucky’s previous winners of the award include: Asia Seidt (swimming), Chelsea Oswald (track and field/cross country) and Jeff Zurcher (football).
