Wildcats Rack up Five Event Wins in Spring Opener

ORLANDO, Fla. – The Kentucky track and field team, featuring in its second official meet of the 2025 outdoor season today, kicked off competition at the Black and Gold Invitational in Orlando, Fla., hosted by UCF.

Five different Wildcats came out on top in their respective events today, while four finishers moved into the top 10 marks in Kentucky program history in their events. Senior Payton Phillips started at the top of the day by winning the women’s pole vault event with a 4.15m final mark. Phillips enters outdoor competition coming off a bronze medal performance at the SEC Indoor Championships in College Station and a Third-Team All-SEC honor. In the same event, Kaitlyn Cain finished sixth with a 3.85m distance.

In the men’s edition of the pole vault event, two Wildcats placed inside the top five, including Shane Racey taking home first (5.28m) and Brayden Jackson taking fifth (5.08m).

During the evening slate, Janet Jepkemboi Amimo, Perri Bockrath and Jack Pendergast secured three more events wins for the Cats in the women’s 1500m, the women’s 5000m and the men’s 5000m finals, respectively. Both Jepkemboi Amimo’s and Bockrath’s times moved the pair into fifth and sixth place on the UK all-time list.

Other top finishers for the Cats included Logan Coles (Hammer), Shelby Winger (Shot Put), Grayson Brashear (Shot Put), Emmi Scales (400m), Jenna Schwinghamer (1500m) and Ed Bird (1500m).
