
Kentucky STUNT Sweeps Friday Doubleheader
LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Kentucky STUNT team extended its winning streak to eight on Friday, winning two games in the Midwest Showdown at Historic Memorial Coliseum.
Kentucky (8-0) beat Purdue Northwest 24-0 before topping Michigan State 21-5. The eight-game winning streak is the longest in the program’s four-year history.
In game one, Kentucky raced out to an early lead in the first quarter, partner stunts. The Cats took all four points to lead 4-0. UK repeated that feat in the second quarter, winning all four of the points in pyramids and tosses, to take an 8-0 lead at halftime.
The third quarter, jumps and tumbling, saw much of the same. UK won all four points to lead 12-0. And in the fourth quarter, team routine, the Cats took all 12 points to close out the perfect game. The perfect game against Purdue Northwest was the fifth occurrence in UK history and the third this season (Feb. 1 vs. UT Martin and Feb. 9 vs. Central Michigan).
Game two of the day was much more competitive. Kentucky did win all of the points in the first quarter to establish an early lead. Michigan State won the first point of the second quarter, but the Cats won the next three points and UK took a 7-1 advantage into the half.
In the third quarter, Kentucky won the first point before the teams tied on the second routine. UK won the third point, but Michigan State won the final point of the period. Kentucky took a 10-3 lead into the final stanza. The Cats outscored the Spartans 11-2 in the final period to provide the final margin of victory.
Kentucky returns to action on Saturday, hosting Missouri Valley in the final game of the Midwest Classic. Game time is 2:30 p.m.
