Big Blue Preview: No. 8/13 Kentucky Women’s Basketball Plays Host to Georgia on Alumni Day

LEXINGTON, Ky. – The No. 8/13 University of Kentucky women’s basketball program will play host to Georgia on Sunday, Feb. 16 at 2 p.m. ET inside Historic Memorial Coliseum.

It will mark the program’s annual alumni day, with more than 60 alumni from every decade currently signed up to attend. Join the program in welcoming home and celebrating University of Kentucky women’s basketball alumni to the newly renovated Historic Memorial Coliseum.

Moreover, the program will be distributing a limited number of mini posters at each of its final three home games.

Tomorrow, the program will distribute Georgia Amoore “It Just Means Amoore: Her Last Ride” mini posters, while supplies last, at the Lexington Avenue and Rose Street entrances. Also, Amoore will be signing autographs on the Lexington Avenue side concourse after the game.

The Wildcats have sold out their remaining three games of the season, while some UK student and faculty / staff tickets remain available to claim.

Big Blue Nation also can still purchase tickets to the program’s remaining home games on Ticketmaster Verified Resale. To shop those tickets, click here. For a full list of the program’s Southeastern Conference promotional lineup, click here.

Darren Headrick will have the radio call for UK Sports Network, his eighth straight season as the voice of the Wildcats. His call will be carried on 630 AM WLAP (Lexington) and 840 AM WHAS (Louisville).

Big Blue Nation also can watch the game on SEC Network+, with Jeff Piecoro and Christi Thomas on the call.

Kentucky is 19-4 on the season, including 8-3 in the Southeastern Conference. The Wildcats enter the game 12-1 at home, while they’re in search for their best home record since going 16-1 in 2012-13.

The Wildcats also are on the hunt for their first 20-plus win season since 2019-20. The Cats have had 20 such seasons in program history, with 10 of those collected from 2009-10 to 2019-20. Kenny Brooks, who is in his 23rd season as a head coach, with stops spanning across JMU, Virginia Tech and Kentucky, has produced 18 20-plus win seasons in his career.

Kentucky is coming off its first back-to-back losses of the season after dropping to RV/RV Ole Miss, 66-57, last Monday and No. 3/3 Texas, 67-49, on Thursday. Even in its losses, UK continues to shine on defense, holding nine of its 11 league opponents to under 40.0 percent shooting. UK kept UM to 38.5 percent on its home court and UT – the top field-goal percentage team in the league and 10th in the nation – to 38.2 percent.

The Wildcats are approaching some notable benchmarks, including Dazia Lawrence, who needs just 32 more points to eclipse 1,500 for her career. Also, Clara Strack needs just eight more blocks to break the single-season school record, while Amoore needs just 45 more assists to break the single-season school record.

This is the 66th all-time meeting between Kentucky and Georgia. The Wildcats trail the all-time meetings with the Lady Bulldogs, 41-24, in a series that began in 1980, while the Cats trail the series with the Lady Dogs in Lexington, 15-12.

It will mark their second meeting this season, while each program’s home-and-home opponent will rotate annually.

The Wildcats defeated the Lady Bulldogs earlier this season, 78-64, on Jan. 19 in Athens. The Cats have a two-game winning streak over the Lady Dogs.

A pair of players set some pretty cool benchmarks in Kentucky’s win at Georgia on Jan. 19. Strack became the only UK player since at least 2002-03 to have at least 25 points, 12 rebounds and four assists in an SEC road game. Strack and Amoore became the first pair of UK players to score at least 24 points each in an SEC road game since SeSe Helm and Sara Potts did so at Ole Miss on Feb. 1, 2004.
