Strong First Day for UKT&F at Razorback Invite

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – It was a strong first day of the 2025 Razorback Invite for the University of Kentucky track and field teams, setting several personal and season bests at the Randal Tyson Track Center in Fayetteville, Arkansas.

Saturday’s action will be streamed live on the SEC Network+ and a full schedule of events for Saturday as well as Kentucky’s results from Friday can be found below.

Sophomore Kate Powers performed well in the women’s weight throw to get the field events started for Kentucky, scoring a top-collegiate finish and second-place finish overall with a 21.86m throw. Fellow sophomore Morgan Davis put together a season-best 6.15m jump in the women’s long jump to finish ninth. Junior Aliyah Adams was 18th at 5.70m in the women’s long jump. Senior Payton Phillips was tied for second in the women’s pole vault with a 4.15m performance, while freshman Chelsea Wetzel put together a season best at 4.0m in 14th place. Juniors Anne Murphy and Kaitlyn Cain also performed in the pole vault, finishing 15th and 20th, respectively. Sophomore Julia Gunnell finished fifth overall in the pentathlon, securing a person best 11.51 in the shot put.

In men’s field events, Kentucky got a seventh-place finish and a personal best 5.20m from junior Brayden Jackson while senior teammate Shane Racey finished eighth also at 5.20m. In the men’s weight throw, senior Logan Coles finished 11th with a 19.65m toss, while junior Daroyce Flemons posted a personal best with a 19.54m 12th-place finish. Grayson Brashear finished 15th.

In running events, the women were led by a fifth-place finish from the Jenna Schwinghamer, Alaji Bradley, Cha’iel Johnson and Jane Amino in the distance medley relay with a time of 11:11.19, which is the ninth-fastest time in school history. Seniors Jayla Atkinson and Phoebe McCowan finished 24th and 25th, respectively in the women’s 800m, while freshman Sharmelle Holmes posted a personal best 23.44 and fifth-place finish in the women’s 200m. Freshman Stacey Onyepunuka finished 19th in the women’s 200m while sophomore Morgan Davis was 20th. Freshman Briley Cline put together a season-best in the event with a 24.78.

In the men’s 800m, junior Patrick Faust and senior Alex Justus finished 22nd and 23rd, respectively. In the men’s 200m, Shavique Bascus was 12th, Clinton Muunga was 24th, Mekhai Williams-Villafane was 28th and Brandon Nyandoro was 29th.

Following the weekend in Northwest Arkansas, the Cats will return to the track next Saturday, racing at the Fairgrounds Invitational at the Indiana Farm Bureau Fall Creek Pavilion in Indianapolis on February 8.
