Kentucky Track & Field Closes McCravy Memorial with Nine Event Wins

LOUISVILLE Ky. – The University of Kentucky Track and Field program wrapped up the 30th Annual Rod McCravy Memorial Invitational on Saturday afternoon, earning event wins in the Men’s and Women’s 60m dash, the Men’s 800, and the Women’s 4x400m Relay. With the four McCravy titles on Saturday, the Wildcats wrapped up their lone home meet of the indoor season with nine wins.

Victoria Perrow’s victory in the 60m final was the first of the second day of competition at the McCravy, as the senior from Potomac, Maryland recorded a personal best time in the event for the first time since 2022. Perrow stormed out of the blocks to lead through the entire sprint, stopping the clock at 7.25 seconds. This mark improves Perrow to No. 6 All-Time at Kentucky and moves her to No. 2 in the NCAA this season, based on times entering today.

Freshman Sharmelle Holmes finished in third place in the 60m, despite winning the preliminary and semifinal rounds of the event. Holmes—who ran 7.29 on Friday to set a new Kentucky freshman record—was edged out for second place by one one-thousandth of a second.

The Wildcats completed the 60m sweep minutes later, as senior Clinton Muunga picked up his first victory of the year in a season best time of 6.68. The time was just one one-hundredth of a second off his personal best. Miles Jones also qualified for the final, finishing in fifth place.

Making his Kentucky debut, Patrick Faust—a junior transfer from Life University—made a statement in his first race as a Wildcat. The brother of Kentucky great Brain Faust, Patrick led his 800m section wire-to-wire, holding a comfortable 20-meter margin for much of the race to take the McCravy title in 1:50.29.

The Women’s 4x400m relay team of Cha’iel Johnson, Hannah Douglas, Oneika McAnnuff, and A’Laji Bradley earned the final win of the meet for the Wildcats, taking home the title in a season’s best time of 3:34.52.

Kentucky’s best field result of the afternoon came in the Women’s Triple Jump as Sophie Galloway and Aliyah Adams finished in second and third, respectively. Galloway leapt to a top mark of 12.45m while Adams finished at 12.39m.

In the Women’s Mile, Elly Heine ran a new personal best time of 5:02.09 to finish in third place.

On Friday, four Wildcats picked up individual wins—Kate Powers in the Weight Throw, Oneika McAnnuff in the 300m, Cha’iel Johnson in the 600m, and Shavique Bascus in the 200m—while the Women’s DMR also took home the McCravy title. Three Wildcats cemented themselves in the Kentucky record book as Powers and Johnson set school records on their way to victory while Holmes broke Abby Steiner’s freshman record in the 60m dash.

The Wildcats will return to the track next weekend as they split squads to events in Lubbock, Texas and Nashville, Tennessee. The sprinters and jumpers will travel to Texas Tech’s Corky Classic while the distance runners and throwers will compete at the Vanderbilt Invitational. Both events will take place from Friday, January 17 to Saturday, January 18.

Honoring Rod McCravy

The high level of competition at the meet has turned into a fitting tribute to its namesake: the late Rodriq McCravy.

McCravy, a UK track athlete, died at the age of 19 in 1987 while sleeping in his dorm room. Although only a sophomore, Rod had already become the track team’s leader. His personal charisma and genuine care for others earned him the respect and admiration of all his teammates.

His personal impact on his teammates, friends, and coaches went well beyond athletics. A social work major, Rod is remembered as a dedicated, enthusiastic athlete, a conscientious student, a cherished friend, and most important, an outstanding human being.

A graduate of Louisville Trinity High School, Rod was a two-time class AAA state champion in the 300m hurdles. He once held the UK freshman 400m hurdles record (53.35) and was part of a then-school record 4x400m relay team.

The meet is named in his honor to help members of the UK track and field community remember him as well as provide an ongoing opportunity to speak about Rod and the positive influence he had on everyone who knew him.
