Big Blue Preview: No. 16/16 Kentucky Women’s Basketball Takes On RV/RV Vanderbilt in Nashville
NASHVILLE – The No. 16/16 University of Kentucky women’s basketball program will play at RV/RV Vanderbilt on Sunday, Jan. 5 at 3 p.m. ET in Memorial Gymnasium for its first Southeastern Conference road game of 2024-25.

Darren Headrick will have the radio call for UK Sports Network, his eighth straight season as the voice of the Wildcats. His call will be carried on 630 AM WLAP (Lexington) and 790 AM WKRD (Louisville).
Big Blue Nation also can watch the game on SEC Network+, with Alex Gould and Richard Hendrix on the call.
The Wildcats enter the game 12-1 overall, 1-0 in the SEC and 1-1 on the road.
Kentucky defeated RV/RV Mississippi State, 91-69, in the conference opener at home on Thursday, marking its most points scored ever in a conference opener (91). It also tied for the largest margin of victory in a conference opener (22). It was just the second time this season, and the first time since the season opener, that it scored at least 90 points.
In that game, UK made 18 3-pointers to break the single-game school record. It made 18 3-pointers on 33 attempts for a season-high 54.5 percent from long range. UK’s backcourt, Georgia Amoore and Dazia Lawrence, were responsible for seven 3-pointers apiece, each just one shy of tying the individual single-game school record. It also marked the first time in program history that two players made at least seven 3-pointers in the same game.
In fact, UK’s 18 3-pointers combined with its 21-of-25 from the charity stripe, it only had eight 2-pointers in the game.
The Wildcats’ 91-point performance marked their fifth straight game scoring at least 80 points. It also marked Amoore’s fifth straight game scoring at least 20 points.
UK excelled in sharing the ball in that game. Now ranked seventh in the nation with its 20.2 assists per game, UK delivered 23 dimes against MSU.
That’s not all, though, as UK also shined on defense against MSU, logging 10 blocks. It marked the sixth game this season the team has logged at least nine blocks, as it continues to lead the nation with its 8.0 blocks per game. Clara Strack, sophomore center, had a career-high five blocks alone.
The is the 61st all-time meeting between Kentucky and Vanderbilt. The Wildcats trail the Commodores in the all-time meetings, 33-27, in a series that began in 1981. The Cats also trail the Dores, 18-8, in Nashville.
Kentucky is on a two-game losing streak against Vanderbilt. Kentucky’s last win over Vanderbilt was on Feb. 17, 2022, earning a 69-65 triumph in Memorial Coliseum. Kentucky’s last win over Vanderbilt on the road was on Feb. 14, 2016, earning a 71-55 triumph in Memorial Gymnasium.
