KENTUCKY BASKETBALL POSTGAME QUOTES
#20 KENTUCKY VS. WOFFORD
HISTORIC MEMORIAL COLISEUM – LEXINGTON, KY.

Head Coach Kenny Brooks
Opening statement…
“I mean, obviously, you know, we are excited to get a win. You have to continue to get better. Wofford is a very well-coached basketball team, and we took them out of a lot of their things, and, you know, they resorted to trying to go one-on-one and attack our bigs. I thought we did a good job of handling that, you know, we are never going to be quick, especially against a small group like that. You are playing five guards. I thought we contested at the rim, lost a little bit of focus, and gave up some offensive rebounds, but we knew they were going to shoot the three, and they launched them, and they ran to get them, so we got to get better at that. I was a little disappointed with the way we handled double-teams. We have to have an awareness and understand that double teams are going to come, and people have tape, they are going to understand, and they are going to try to take away our inside play and then make us shoot from the outside. We will get better at that, and it is really good to get a win.”
On the message at half after a hot first quarter then a cold second quarter…
“It is so hard because I want them to be perfect, but we are not going to be perfect right now. And like I said before, Dazia was hot, so, we do not really have an offense where the ball is going to go to one spot. It is just like ‘Who is going to get the basketball?’ Some others got opportunities and just did not knock them down at the rate we would have liked. Right now, our message is just to continue to play hard and play for one another. And we are not good enough yet. We do not know each other enough yet to say, ‘Hey we need to get the ball here or hey we need to get the ball there’ because I am still learning each and every one of them and what their capabilities are when the lights are on.”
On Daizas first quarter performance…
“I keep her we brought her here for a reason, and I thought she was a little hesitant the first couple of games. Trying to feel it out, and so many of them are. They’re just trying to figure out what is the identity of this group, who is going to step up, who is going to knock down shots. Every time I pass her in the hallways, every time I pass her on the court, I’m just like go be you, go be you. We did a little bit today before the game, worked on and tweaked her shot just a little bit. Disappointed, I told her to go out and make nine, she made four. I’ll take it though, I’ll take it. Just seeing the ball go through the hoop for her because she’s working hard every game. That’s something that we definitely need.”
On defensive communication…
“I thought they were a little bit better, but still I thought we had a couple of situations that we could’ve gotten better in. So, again it’s not going to be perfect the way we are right now. We’ve got to continue to get better incrementally each game, and I think we got a little better. Again, when you play teams like we’ve played so far, they play their butt of to spread you out and they don’t really play their typical style of offensive style. I think last game they shot 13 threes, and then they shot three tonight, so that was clearly game plan. Spread everybody out and see what they can do shooting from long range. I didn’t get to see as much as I would’ve liked because they were running some really good stuff.”
Player Quotes
#10, Dazia Lawrence, G, R-Sr.
On what went right in the first quarter…
“I was just confident in my shot. I was just staying true to myself, not passing up any open shots as well. Overall, just being confident and knocking it down”.
On improvement in defensive communication…
“There was improvement but there is still a lot that we can improve on. We need to work on and be more aware about getting over screens and other things like that”.
