Elin Pudas Remler Crowned SEC Freshman Golfer of the Week
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – University of Kentucky women’s golfer Elin Pudas Remler has been named the Southeastern Conference Freshman Golfer of the Week, it was announced by the league office Wednesday.
The Wildcat shined yet again early in her rookie season, placing in the top 10 in the elite field at the Ruth’s Chris Tar Heel Invitational at Finley Golf Club (par 70, 6,081 yards) in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, last week. In a fivesome that featured three freshmen, one sophomore and one senior, it was the rookie, Pudas Remler of Gothenburg, Sweden, that paced the Wildcats for the second of three tournaments this season.
Stringing together a 70, 71 and 72 for a 3-over-par 213 tournament total, Pudas Remler earned 10th place in the 90-person field, just three shots off the top three.
In just three tournaments in her college career, she already has two top-10 finishes, including tying for third place in the season opener at the Bettie Lou Evans Invitational.
Her 3-over tournament total last week at the Ruth’s Chris Tar Heel Invitational marked her second-best scoring output of the season, while she is pacing the team with all nine of her rounds counted toward the team totals and a 72.2 stroke average.
Her 10 birdies during the three-day tournament last week tied for the fourth most among the 90-person field.
Pudas Remler leads the team with four rounds of even-par-or-better through nine rounds total.
As a team, the Wildcats, including Pudas Remler, are getting ready to compete in their fall finale at the Charles Schwab Women’s Collegiate Invitational at Ridglea Country Club in Fort Worth, Texas from Oct. 28-29.
