Cathryn Brown, C.A. Carter Remain Under Par, Kentucky Just 2-Over as a Team

FRANKLIN, Tenn. – Two Bluegrass natives are under par through 36 holes at the Mason Rudolph Championship at the Vanderbilt Legends Club (North Course). Meanwhile, the University of Kentucky women’s golf team went 5-over in the second round Saturday, forming a 2-over tournament total to find 13th place ahead of the final round Sunday.

Cathryn Brown, a sophomore from Eddyville, Kentucky, paces the lineup on a 2-under-par 142 for a share of 23rd place.

The Wildcat had an impressive start to the second round, collecting a trio of birdies and 12 pars through her first 15 holes. She suffered back-to-back bogeys on the par-5 No. 7 and the par-4 No. 8, toward the end of her day, as she paired her first-round 71 with a second-round 71. In Brown’s 21 career rounds, she has never strung together two rounds under par to start a tournament.

As she approaches the final round 2-under Sunday, her 54-hole career best is a 1-under at the UCF Challenge – her college debut – in January 2024.

C.A. Carter, a freshman from Lexington, Kentucky, also remains under par for the tournament, boasting a 1-under-par 143 to sit in a tie for 31st place.

In the second round at the Mason Rudolph Championship, she hustled for an even-par 72, pairing a team-high five birdies with a trio of bogeys and a double on the par-4 No. 9, which was her final hole of the day. Her first and second rounds of 71 and 72, respectively, are a 10-stroke difference from her first and second rounds in her college debut at the Bettie Lou Evans Invitational. They also mark her best- and second-best rounds through five total rounds this season.

Brooke Oberparleiter is just 1-over for the tournament at T43.

Starting on No. 10 with the rest of the Wildcats, the sophomore went 5-over through her first seven holes, but was resilient the rest of the way, earning four birdies and just one bogey in her final 10 holes of the day. Despite her troubling start, she finished the second round with a 2-over-par 74.

Elin Pudas Remler has a 4-over tournament total, hovering 61st place for the time being. The freshman went 2-over on her first nine and 2-over on her second nine for a 4-over-par 76 on Saturday. She chipped away at her deficit on her second nine, collecting three birdies in her final six holes Saturday.

Raleygh Simpson, who is 7-over for T76 at the Mason Rudolph Championship, also recorded a 4-over-par 76 in the second round, just one stroke more than her average this season.

The Wildcats will tee off in the final round Sunday at 9:50 a.m. ET, paired with the Vanderbilt “B” Team (+14) and Chattanooga (+15).
