Wildcats Go Under Par Through 18 Holes at the Mason Rudolph Championship

FRANKLIN, Tenn. – The Wildcats logged a combined eight birdies – and no bogeys – in their finals three holes of the first round at the Mason Rudolph Championship, finishing the day under par as a team.

Playing on the North Course at the Vanderbilt Legends Club, the young lineup, which includes three freshmen and two sophomores, recorded a season-best, 3-under-par 285 on Friday. Kentucky is in a share of 10th place among the 17 teams competing after just 18 holes of action. Tied for first place are two Southeastern Conference and nationally ranked foes in No. 16 Mississippi State and No. 4 South Carolina on team totals of 12-under-par 276, while No. 17 Arizona and No. 18 Clemson are tied for third place at 11-under-par 277.

The Wildcats’ -3 in the first round Friday is their second-best, 18-hole mark at the tournament in four years (2021-24), and their best since earning a -6 in the second round in 2021.

Four of the five Cats turned in a scorecard of par-or-better from the first round, while three Cats are under par.

Cathryn Brown, C.A. Carter and Brooke Oberparleiter are tied with each other for 32nd place, each assembling 1-under-par 71. All three of them dipped under par after a stellar final three holes on their back nine, including sophomore Oberparleiter’s three straight birdies on hole Nos. 7, 8 and 9. Carter had two straight birdies on seven and eight, while Brown earned a birdie on seven in that final stretch.

For Carter and Oberparleiter, it marked their first round of par-or-better through four rounds so far in 2024-25, while it marked Brown’s second.

Elin Pudas Remler started well and ended well, with a birdie on the par-5 No. 14 and again on the par-4 No. 9. The freshman experienced one rough patch through the middle of her round, carding bogeys on the par-4 No. 17 and the par-4 No. 1, but she saved her scorecard with an even-par 72. Pudas Remler, who has only been stateside for less than a month, is tied for 47th place on the individual leaderboard, with 36 holes still to go this weekend.

While Raleygh Simpson’s score didn’t contribute to the team total for the first time in her four competitive rounds this season, she still earned her second-best mark of the year thus far, recording a 3-over-par 75. She is tied for 71st place on the 90-person individual leaderboard.

Kentucky is back at it for the second round Saturday, this time teeing off in the early wave beginning at 9:35 a.m. ET. The team will go off No. 10 again, paired with Georgia Southern (-3) and Alabama (-1).
