Luke Brown Smashes Triple Jump Record in Outdoor Debut
BATON ROUGE, La. — Junior Luke Brown smashed the triple jump school record en route to his first outdoor event win this afternoon as the University of Kentucky track and field program concluded the Battle on the Bayou hosted by Louisiana State University.
Brown, who holds the indoor triple jump record, added the outdoor record to his portfolio this afternoon in his outdoor debut for the Wildcats. After being kept away from outdoor competition the past two seasons, Brown finally made it to an outdoor season for the Wildcats and marked his arrival with dominance in the triple jump.
The Kingston, Jamaica native continued his triple jump perfection from the indoor season achieving a new school record of 53’9.75”/16.40 meters on his fourth attempt to earn the win. The mark replaces Keenan Hall’s mark of 51’7”/15.72 meters set in 2011 and catapults Brown to the top of the NCAA leaderboards pending other meet results from the weekend.
Brown’s win gives the program three total event wins on the weekend with 24 top-10 event finishes from the Battle on the Bayou. A total of three personal bests were achieved today giving the program a total of nine from the meet while 11 marks were added to the record book.
The Wildcats will travel to Knoxville, Tennessee next weekend for the Tennessee Invitational on April 5-6.
