Kentucky STUNT Falls to Hope International in Overtime
RIVERSIDE, Calif. – The Kentucky STUNT team lost a heartbreaker to Hope International on Saturday, falling 17-16 in overtime in the semifinals of “The Joust” at California Baptist University.
Kentucky (15-6) started off the first quarter against Hope, partner stunts, by winning the first point. However, Hope would win the next three points and the Royals led 3-1 after one quarter.
The Cats rallied in the second quarter, pyramids and tosses. Kentucky took the first two points before Hope won the third routine. The teams tied on the final routine of the period and Hope had a 5-4 lead at the half.
In the third quarter, jumps and tumbling, Hope took the first point before Kentucky won the second routine. The teams tied on the third routine before UK won the final point of the quarter to tie the game at 7-7 with one period remaining.
In the fourth quarter, team routine, the game remained very tight. Both teams earned two points on the first routine, but UK took a one-point lead after the second routine. Hope bounced back to tie the game in the third routine and the teams remained tied, this time at 14-14, at the end of regulation.
The teams would play an overtime session, with another team routine determining the outcome. In the extra session, Hope took three points to just two for Kentucky.
Kentucky returns to action on April 6, facing Mercyhurst and Ashland at Ashland.
