Luke Brown, Kennedy Lightner Collect Medals to Close SEC Indoor Championships

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — Graduate student Kennedy Lightner and senior Luke Brown earned the final two medals of the meet this weekend as the University of Kentucky track and field program concluded the Southeastern Conference Indoor Championships hosted by the University of Arkansas.

Brown got the first medal of the day after winning the triple jump with a mark of 54’ 5.25”/16.59 meters. The gold medal marks the first SEC medal of Brown’s career in three SEC championship appearances.

Lightner earned the fifth SEC medal of his career after taking home bronze with a time of 20.51 earning six points. His bronze marked the fifth and final medal the Wildcats earned at the championships this weekend after seniors Charity Hufnagel, Keaton Daniel, and Dennis Ohene-Adu earned medals in field events on Friday. In total, the Wildcats collected three gold medals and two bronze medals this weekend.

The men’s side concluded the SEC indoor championships with a sixth-place finish with 41.5 points while the women’s side finished 10th with 30.5 points.

The Wildcats now turn their attention to the NCAA Indoor Championships. Qualifiers for the meet will be announced on Tuesday, February 27th with the meet taking place March 8-9.

60-METER HURDLES

WOMEN – Junior Alexis Glasco finished sixth with a season-best time of 8.13 earning three points.

200M

MEN – Graduate student Kennedy Lightner earned the fifth SEC medal of his career after taking home bronze with a time of 20.51 earning six points. His bronze marked the fifth and final medal the Wildcats earned at the championships this weekend.

MEN – Senior and collegiate leader Luke Brown earned his first SEC medal after winning with a mark of 54’ 5.25”/16.59 meters earning 10 points.

WOMEN – Kentucky’s “A” team consisting of junior Alysia Johnson, senior Jania Martin, and freshman Oneika McAnnuff and Cha’iel Johnson placed eighth with a season-best time of 3:34.46 earning a point.

MEN – Kentucky’s “A” team consisting of sophomore Brandon Nyandoro, graduate student Ethan Brown, freshman Shavique Bascus and graduate student Kennedy Lightner placed sixth with a season-best time of 3:08.00 earning three points.
