Kentucky Plays Host to Tennessee Tech in Sunday Matinee

LEXINGTON, Ky. – The University of Kentucky women’s basketball team will play host to Tennessee Tech on Sunday, Dec. 3 at 1 p.m. ET at the Clive M. Beck Center on the campus of Transylvania University. The game will be broadcast on SEC Network+, with Maggie Davis and UK alumna Bria Goss on the call.

Big Blue Nation also can catch the play-by-play on radio on UK Sports Network and 630 AM WLAP, with Darren Headrick on the call.

Kentucky is coming off a triumph over Boston College, 83-81, last Thursday, which snapped a five-game losing streak and boosted the Southeastern Conference in the inaugural ACC / SEC Women’s Basketball Challenge. The contested matchup featured 11 ties and 12 lead changes, including a tie at 81-81 in the final 10 seconds of the game. In UK’s final timeout, head coach Kyra Elzy drew up a play for Eniya Russell, which the senior guard executed on a layup at the buzzer to push the Wildcats past the Eagles.

That game was inside the Clive M. Beck Center, helping UK move to a 2-0 all-time record in the arena ahead of Sunday.

The Wildcats are in the midst of one of the toughest nonconference stretches of any team in the Southeastern Conference.

Kentucky is one of two teams, including No. 1 South Carolina, to play at least six Power 5 opponents in the nonconference season. In fact, its six Power 5 opponents are within a current stretch of seven games. Their lone non-Power 5 opponent in that current stretch is Tennessee Tech.

The Wildcats are led in scoring by Maddie Scherr, who is recording 14.0 points per game. She has scored in double digits in five of the last six games, which includes her 25 points and five 3-pointers against Cincinnati on Nov. 25. Behind her is Ajae Petty, who is putting up 13.3 points per game, while she is leading the team in rebounds with 9.1 per game and in double-doubles with three through eight games. She also is second in the league in field goal percentage (59.7, 40-of-67) and third in the league in rebounds (73).
