by Greg Welsh

LEXINGTON, Ky. – The defending SEC Tournament Champion Kentucky men’s tennis team announced its 2024 spring schedule on Wednesday, a slate which includes 23 matches leading up to the SEC Tournament in mid-April.

The journey begins with a doubleheader against NKU and EKU on Jan. 15 at the Boone Tennis Center, two of Kentucky’s 15 scheduled home dual matches this season. The Wildcats will then host Dayton for a doubleheader on Jan. 17, before traveling to Illinois on Jan. 20 for the team’s first road test.

The Boone Tennis Center will serve as a host site for ITA Kickoff Weekend for a second-straight year, as Kentucky welcomes Alabama, Nebraska and Notre Dame, Jan. 26-27, for the 15th annual rendition of the event. One of those four teams will advance to the 2024 ITA Division I National Men’s Team Indoor Championships, to be held Feb. 16-19 at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Queens, N.Y.

The Cats round out non-conference play with a series of matches against top-notch competition including home bouts with Louisville (Feb. 2), two-time defending National Champion, Virginia (Feb. 4) and Harvard (Feb. 9). UK concludes out of league action with a visit to Duke on Feb. 11.

The Wildcats will once again play a 12-match SEC regular season schedule beginning with a visit to Vanderbilt on March 1. Other SEC road opponents this season include LSU (March 14), Mississippi State (March 16), Arkansas (March 29), Ole Miss (March 31) and South Carolina (April 5). SEC home matches on the docket are Alabama (March 3), Florida (March 8), Texas A&M (March 22), Auburn (March 24), Georgia (April 12) and Tennessee (April 14).

Kentucky will look to defend its crown at the 2024 SEC Tournament Championship, hosted by LSU, April 17-21 in Baton Rouge.

The 2024 NCAA Tournament will begin with First and Second Round matches May 2-5, and conclude with the Championship contest in Stillwater, Okla., May 19. The NCAA Singles and Doubles Championships will follow in Stillwater, May 20-25.

Kentucky enters 2024 following another successful campaign a year ago. The Wildcats won their second-ever SEC Tournament Championship, reached the semifinals at ITA National Indoors and played their way into the Elite Eight at the 2023 NCAA Tournament.

Among the notable returnees for Kentucky are All-SEC First Team selection, Joshua Lapadat, All-SEC Second Team member, Taha Baadi and SEC All-Freshman Team honoree, Jaden Weekes.
