Three Former Miss Basketball Winners Ready to Play Together This Season
For the first time in the history of the Kentucky women’s basketball program, the Cats, in 2023-24, will have not one, not two but three former Kentucky Miss Basketball winners on the roster at the same time.
A total of 13 Miss Basketball winners have played at Kentucky during their careers. From Kris Miller to Becky McKinley to Makayla Epps to Maci Morris, the history or Miss Basketball winners playing for UK runs deep.
The Cats had two Miss Basketball winners on the roster last season. Maddie Scherr came home after playing two years at Oregon, and she joined Amiya Jenkins on the 2022-23 UK roster.
This year, Brooklyn Miles, who played her first two seasons at Tennessee, also transferred back, giving this year’s Cats three former Miss Basketball winners on the roster for the first time. The players have all known each other for some time and they are excited to all be teammates.
“It is very unique,” Miles said. “The girls are amazing. We played together when we were in high school, middle school. It’s been amazing rekindling with them.”
Jenkins agrees with Miles.
“I think it’s really exciting,” Jenkins said. “I don’t think it’s ever been done before here. It’s really cool and awesome to be a part of. We’re going to bring all that we can to this team.”
All three players mentioned that they take a lot of pride in playing for the flagship institution in their home state.
“It’s super fun. It’s something unique,” Scherr said. “It’s a blessing to be at this school and play with Kentucky across our chest, being Kentucky girls and having that award when you’re in high school, it means a little bit more, too. We all have that chip on our shoulder that we want to make the state proud.”
After spending two years in Knoxville, Miles is glad to be home and proud to be wearing blue.
“It means the most to me,” Miles said. “I just want to represent my state well. Make everyone proud. We’re going hard for the state and the people.”
Jenkins agrees that she takes more pride in wearing a Kentucky jersey than someone from somewhere else might.
“Absolutely. I feel like being from Kentucky and being able to wear it across your chest holds different value to us because it’s home,” Jenkins said. “We grew up watching Kentucky women’s basketball players. Just to be here and be part of it is amazing.”
All three of the former Kentucky Miss Basketball winners on the roster this season figure to be key players for the Cats. All three of them are also very proud to be representing their home state by wearing the blue and white.
