No. 23 Wildcats Journey to Georgia for Thursday Tilt

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Looking to bounce back from its first loss of the season and remain in the mix for the SEC East crown, No. 23 Kentucky (8-1-5, 2-1-4 SEC) takes on Georgia (7-3-4, 3-2-2 SEC) this Thursday night from the Turner Soccer Complex. The match will begin at 6 p.m. and can be seen live on SECN+.

Kentucky suffered its first defeat of the 2023 campaign in its last outing, falling 2-0 to Mississippi State. Georgia, meanwhile, enters on the heels of a 2-1 victory over Tennessee in Knoxville.

Fifth-year forward Jordyn Rhodes continues to be among the conference leaders in both goals (9) and total points (21), ranking second in each category. Anchored by goalkeeper Marz Josephson, the Wildcats are tied with South Carolina for the fewest goals allowed among SEC teams, having conceded just eight times.

Georgia, picked fourth in the 2023 SEC Preseason Coaches Poll, features a trio of offensive threats each with four goals this season. Nicole Vernis, Summer Denigan and Hannah White have all found the back of the net four times, tying for the team lead. Vernis, who also has five assists this season, paces the Bulldogs with 13 points overall.

Kentucky, currently sitting at 10 points in SEC play, is looking to secure a berth to the SEC Tournament for the first time since 2015 (with the exception of the 2020 season when all 14 SEC teams were invited).

Thursday’s clash will be the 29th meeting all time between the Wildcats and the Bulldogs. Kentucky trails the series 9-14-5, most recently falling short in a 3-0 defeat last October.
