Kentucky Men’s Soccer Secures 3-0 Victory in Season Opener
LEXINGTON, Ky. – No. 3 Kentucky men’s soccer kicked the 2023 season off with a 3-0 victory over Florida Gulf Coast on Thursday at the Wendell & Vickie Bell Soccer Complex.
With nearly 1,000 fans in attendance for the season opener, the Cats made sure to make it an exciting match. Three UK newcomers, Aboubacar Camara, Logan Dorsey and Finn Ballard McBride, scored their first goals as Wildcats while Casper Mols earned his first clean sheet of the season.
Earlier today, both Mols and Ballard McBride were announced on the 2023 MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List.
With two off-target shot attempts by Casper Grening and Camara in the first 20 minutes of the contest, Louisville transfer Camara found his moment in the 31st minute. From a penalty kick, he put the Wildcats on the scoreboard with a successful shot to the bottom left of the net.
As halftime quickly approached, Dorsey was able to make it two with a left-footed goal on his Wildcat debut. The assist by Lexington-native Max Miller gave the Cats a 2-nil advantage heading into the second period.
Seven shots were made by Kentucky in the second half. However, one of those shots found its way into the net with a breakaway goal by Ballard McBride. The graduate transfer made a beautiful sprint down the pitch to send the third and final goal of the night past FGCU’s keeper. He was assisted by Camara and Miller in the 61st minute.
Mols recorded three saves with one save awarded to the team as Kentucky earned its first clean sheet of the 2023 match slate.
The Wildcats will be back at The Bell on Monday for a 7:30 p.m. contest against ETSU.
