Day One Results

STATESBORO, Georgia – The Kentucky men’s golf team sits tied for third at 2-under-par after the opening day of the Schenkel Invitational at Forest Heights Country Club in Statesboro, Georgia. Host Georgia Southern leads the tournament at 16-under, followed by Mississippi State at 4-under and the Cats and Wisconsin two strokes back.

Graduate Garrett Wood leads Kentucky in a tie for fifth at 3-under while senior Alex Goff is a stroke back in a tie for seventh. Wood was 1-over through his first six holes but eagled the par-5 seventh hole before carding three birdies against one bogey on his back nine to notch his seventh round of par-or-better this season. Goff recorded five birdies for his team-best 12th round of par-or-better on the year.

Freshman Kevin Watts put together a solid opening round as well, sitting a tie for 19th at even-par. The native of Colleyville, Texas notched his fourth round of par-or-better, all coming in the last three tournaments. Junior Campbell Kremer and graduate Dhaivat Pandya rounded out the Wildcat lineup in a tie for 44th at 3-over through 18 holes.

Playing as an individual, senior Jackson LaLonde sits in a tie for 82nd after a 10-over 82.

As a team, Kentucky sits third in the 14-team field in par-3 scoring at 2-over and third with 18 birdies. Individually, Wood is tied for second in the field in par-4 scoring at 2-under.
