Jaden Weekes Earns SEC Freshman of the Week

by Greg Welsh

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Following his performance last week, the Southeastern Conference has named Kentucky’s Jaden Weekes the Freshman of the Week in men’s tennis, it was announced by the league on Wednesday.

The honor is the first such award of Weekes’ collegiate career and makes him the second Kentucky freshman to earn the distinction this season, joining Charlelie Cosnet.

Weekes went undefeated this past week, combining for a perfect 4-0 record in singles and doubles to help the Cats defeat LSU and Arkansas. The Montreal native did not lose a set all weekend, securing straight-set wins over LSU’s George Stoupe and Arkansas’ Alan Sau Franco, while also partnering with teammate Liam Draxl for two, point-clinching doubles victories.

On the spring, Weekes is 8-3 in singles play and 10-6 in doubles. Since teaming with Draxl, the pair is an impressive 5-1 at the third doubles position for UK.
