Cosnet Crowned SEC Freshman of the Week

by Greg Welsh

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Wildcat freshman, Charlelie Cosnet has been named SEC Freshman of the Week, the conference announced on Wednesday. The honor is the first of Cosnet’s collegiate career and comes after the first-year went 2-1 at the ITA National Indoor Championships, helping Kentucky reach the final four.

Cosnet, who is ranked No. 102 in the latest ITA singles rankings, picked up victories over Florida’s Lukas Grief as well as USC’s Ryan Colby over the weekend, before falling in a tight, three-set battle to TCU’s Tomas Jirousek.

Cosnet secured the clinching point for the Cats in their opening round matchup vs. Florida, while the win over USC’s Colby (No. 82), was his first against a nationally ranked opponent this spring. The freshman owns a 6-2 singles record in dual matches overall and is 1-0 in doubles play.

The Wildcats open SEC play on Thursday, March 2 with a 5 p.m. match against South Carolina at the Hilary J. Boone Tennis Complex.
