Kentucky Primed to Battle Purdue at Home

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Riding a 2-0-0 start to the young season, Kentucky women’s soccer returns home to face Big Ten foe Purdue on Thursday evening at the Wendell and Vickie Bell Soccer Complex. The match will kick off at 5 p.m. with admission free to the public and can also be streamed live on SECN+.

Students are encouraged to arrive beginning at 4 p.m. for Kentucky Athletics’ back to school promotion featuring food, corn hole and a special Airpods giveaway. Following the women’s match, Kentucky men’s soccer will take on the University of Illinois Chicago in game two of the doubleheader.

UK has opened the Troy Fabiano era with a pair of three-goal victories, defeating both Ball State and UT Martin. The contest against Purdue is the second leg of a two-year series between the schools. The teams played to a 1-1 draw in West Lafayette a year ago with Hannah Richardson scoring the lone goal for the Cats in a game that remained deadlocked after two overtimes.

Through its first two games, Kentucky has gotten goals from six different players, including a pair of freshman in Madison Jones and Mallory Glass. Junior midfielder Ulfa Úlfarsdóttir leads the squad with two goals and five points on the young season, while grad transfer Rafferty Kugler has dished out two assists.

Purdue comes to Lexington with a record of 1-1-0 on the season having beaten No. 15 USC before falling to Vanderbilt. The Boilermakers enjoyed one of the best years in program history in 2021 picking up 15 wins and reaching the second round of the NCAA Tournament. Last season’s leading scorer Sarah Griffith has since graduated, but First-Team All-Big-Ten midfielder Emily Mathews is back along with Second-Team honoree Skylurr Patrick.
