Two Wildcats Slated for U20 World Championships in Colombia

CALI, Colombia — Incoming Kentucky track & field sophomores Brandon Miller and Areti Filipidou are set to compete in World Under-20 Athletics Championships in Cali, Colombia from August 1-6. 
 
Miller, competing for Team USA, is scheduled to compete in the men’s 200m with a possibility of the 4x100m relay while Filipidou, competing for Greece, will compete in the women’s discus. 
 
Meet Information 
Filipidou will be the first of the two to participate in the meet, with the discus qualifying round beginning at 5:27 p.m. ET on Monday, August 1. All Times listed are U.S. Eastern. 
 
The 200m heats, featuring Miller, begins at 12:25 p.m. on Wednesday, August 3, followed by semifinals at 4:35 p.m. on the same day. 
 
The women’s discus final also takes place on August 3, but at 6:14 p.m. 
 
The men’s 200m final starts at 7 p.m. on Thursday, August 4.

The Competitors 
Filipidou made her debut as a Wildcat in the first meet of the 2022 outdoor season, the black and gold invitational. Since then, Filipidou has earned a spot on the UK all-time list in the discus at Drake Relays (171’8”/52.32m) that qualified her for NCAA East Preliminary Championships. 
 
The thrower is also the reigning Greek national champion in discus and is the Greek junior record holder in the event. 
 
Miller is an incoming sophomore transfer from Grand Valley State University and is the reigning Division II indoor and outdoor 200m champion.
