Kentucky Moves Into Fifth Place at Lake Las Vegas Intercollegiate
HENDERSON, Nev. – The Kentucky men’s golf team had a solid performance on the second day of the Lake Las Vegas Intercollegiate in Henderson, Nevada, behind three players posting under-par scores as the Wildcats now rank fifth in the team standings.
Collectively, Kentucky recorded a team score of 4-under-par 284 on Tuesday at the Reflection Bay Golf Club, four fewer strokes than its even-par 288 in the opening round. The Wildcats moved up one place with 18 holes remaining as they seek their third top-five finish of the 2021-22 campaign. West Virginia holds the lead at 11-under par followed by UAB (9-under), Utah (7-under) and Little Rock (5-under).
Garrett Wood once again paced the Wildcats with an impressive 4-under-par 68, bettering his 2-under-par 70 from day one to mark the 30th par-or-better round of his career. Although offset by two bogeys at the 13th and 16th, the fifth-year had six birdies – including three straight on holes 4, 5 and 6 – as he currently sits in fourth place, a significant improvement as he entered the day tied for 12th.
Also registering an under-par round for the second day in a row was Jacob Cook, whose 2-under-par 70 matched his score from Monday. Despite suffering a double bogey on the 3rd and a bogey on the 16th, the graduate student rolled in a total of five birdies. He is now tied for eighth overall and is on track for his fourth top-10 finish of the year.
Campbell Kremer joined his teammates with an under-par round of his own on Tuesday. After his five bogeys were negated by his career- and team-high seven birdies, the sophomore carded a 2-under-par 70 to tie his best round of the season. He is currently tied for 22nd after beginning the day ranked 43rd.
Alex Goff and Jay Kirchdorfer, the latter who notched an eagle on the sixth hole, both charted scores of 4-over-par 76 to head into the final day tied for 47th and ranked 81st, respectively. Competing as an individual, Zach Norris recorded a 6-over-par 78 and is tied for 61st.
Wednesday marks the third and final round of the event. The course is scheduled to be set up as a par 72 at 7,204 yards. Kentucky will tee off from the No. 1 tee box beginning at 11:20 a.m. ET and will be paired with Oregon State and Little Rock.
