Kentucky Starts Three-Game Road Stretch Tuesday at Auburn
LEXINGTON, Ky. – The University of Kentucky women’s basketball team will begin a three-game road stretch Tuesday as it travels to play Auburn at 8 p.m. ET inside Auburn Arena. The contest is a makeup of the previously scheduled Dec. 30 game, which was postponed due to COVID protocols within the Auburn program.
Tuesday’s game will be streamed on SEC Network+ with Wiley Ballard and Joe Ciampi on the call. Darren Headrick will have the call on the UK Sports Network (98.5FM in Lexington). Live stats and free live audio will be available online at UKathletics.com.
In each of UK’s last two games, the Wildcats have played with seven available players for multiple reasons. Redshirt junior Dre’una Edwards missed the Florida and Ole Miss games due to a disciplinary matter, while senior Robyn Benton and freshman Kristen Crenshaw-Green both are nursing ankle injuries. Benton played just eight minutes against Florida before sustaining her injury in the first half and was not available against Ole Miss. Three of UK’s seven losses have come with UK not full strength, missing at least one starter in each of those games. The other four games were road games at top-five ranked teams.
The limited roster comes at a bad time for Kentucky, who is in the midst of playing four games in eight days with three of those on the road. UK played Sunday vs. Ole Miss and will travel Tuesday to Auburn, Thursday to Vanderbilt and Sunday to No. 11 LSU.
Senior guard Rhyne Howard is leading UK this season by averaging 19.4 points per game with 6.9 rebounds per game. The guard has hit a team-best 22 3s, while she has 55 assists, 43 steals, 21 blocks and is hitting 44 percent from the field overall. Howard has earned back-to-back double-doubles, scoring 17 points with 10 rebounds vs. Florida and 24 points with 10 rebounds vs. Ole Miss.
Freshman guard Jada Walker is averaging 10.4 points per game with 32 assists, while Benton is also averaging 10.4 points per game. Edwards has played and started 12 games and is averaging 15.9 points and 7.7 rebounds per game.
Tuesday 51st all-time meeting between Kentucky and Auburn in women’s basketball with the Tigers leading the series 26-24. The series is tied in games in Auburn, 11-11. UK has won six straight in the series, including 13 of the last 14 meetings. UK’s last loss in the series was Jan. 3, 2016 when AU earned a 66-61 victory. The two teams met in Auburn last season with UK earning a 76-71 victory on Jan. 21.
