Humes’ Career-High 11 Strikeouts Sends No. 17 UK Past Texas A&M

BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Senior pitcher Autumn Humes struck out a career-high 11 batters Friday night in a 5-1 win over Texas A&M to take the series opener against the Aggies at Davis Diamond.
 
At one point in the game, Humes struck out seven Aggie batters in a row, which on its own would have been just two strikeouts shy of her prior game high for career strikeouts.
 
At the plate, Kentucky scored in each of the first four innings of the game to take a commanding 5-0 lead in the game including a two-run single by Renee Abernathy in the top of the first to put the Wildcats ahead.
 
Game two of the series with Texas A&M has been moved up an hour due to anticipated rain in the Bryan-College Station area to a 2 p.m. ET/1 p.m. CT start time. The game will be broadcasted on the SEC Network+, ESPN3 and the ESPN app.

11. Autumn Humes had a career-high 11 strikeouts vs. Texas A&M on Friday night in the win. Humes is the first Kentucky pitcher to throw at least seven innings with at least 11 strikeouts and allow one run or less in an SEC road win since Chanda Bell at Florida on Apr. 29, 2012.

Lauren Johnson was the key player in Friday night’s game going 2-for-3 at the plate with a run scored, RBI and a walk.

The key play in the game was Autumn Humes’ home run, her fifth of the year, in the top of the third inning to put Kentucky up 4-0. Her home run was a part of her 2-for-3 day at the plate in combo with her sensational performance in the circle.

Texas A&M’s only run came in the bottom of the sixth with two on and two outs, as pinch hitter Dani Elder singled up the middle to score pinch runner Taudrea Sinnie. UK 5, TAMU 1
