Erin Lamb Wins SEC Player, Freshman of Week; Grome Setter
LEXINGTON, Ky. – Kentucky Volleyball’s Erin Lamb was named the Southeastern Conference’s Player of the Week and Freshman of the Week, it was announced by the league office Monday. Additionally, UK setter Emma Grome was named the SEC Setter of the Week.
Lamb played her first significant match in the SEC and hit a staggering .550 with four kills per set, stepping up in the biggest moment of her young career. The freshman from Stewartville, Minnesota registered 12 kills on an efficient 20 kills as the Wildcats hit over .400 in a road sweep at No. 21 Tennessee. It was a new career-high Wednesday night for Lamb in every statistical category including kills, hitting percentage, total attacks, blocks and digs.
Grome ran Kentucky’s offense to near perfection in the absence of Madi Skinner, its leading offensive attacker. Grome averaged 15.0 assists per set Wednesday night at No. 21 Tennessee, logging 45 assists in the match, her new career-high for a three-set match, to go along with five digs, and had the block on match point to secure a sweep of the Lady Vols on Rocky Top. Grome had a pair of kills in the match.
Kentucky is 9-0 on the season in the SEC, currently sitting two games above the second-place Mississippi State Bulldogs and 16-3 on the year. In Sunday’s NCAA Selection Committee reveal, Kentucky was slotted No. 5 in the nation, matching its ranking in the American Volleyball Coaches’ Association top-25.
