Kentucky Plays Missouri in Final Home Game on Sunday Afternoon
LEXINGTON, Ky. – In its final home contest of the season, the University of Kentucky women’s soccer team hosts Missouri on Sunday, Oct. 24 for a 2 p.m. ET matchup inside the Wendell and Vickie Bell Soccer Complex.
Admission to all matches at the Wendell & Vickie Bell Soccer Complex will be free to the public for the 2021 season. For those unable to attend in person, the game will be carried on SEC Network+ with Dave Baker and Payton Atkins on the call.
Fans are encouraged to wear Halloween costumes to Sunday’s match, however, masks intended for costume purposes are not allowed per city ordinance. Costume props will also not be permitted inside the complex on game day for safety and security purposes.
Kentucky enters Sunday’s match with a 6-9-2 record on the year, which includes a 0-8 mark in Southeastern Conference play. The Wildcats are coming off a 2-1 overtime loss at Alabama on Thursday where Marissa Bosco scored UK’s lone goal in the 14th minute off an assist from Paige Archbold.
Jordyn Rhodes continues to lead UK in several categories: goals (10), assists (5), points (25), shots (54), and shots on goal (24). Her 10 goals is tied for second in the conference while her 25 points and 54 shots both sit in fourth.
Hannah Richardson is right behind Rhodes with eight goals — good enough to be tied for fourth in the league — and paves the way for UK with a trio of two-goal games on the year. The dynamic duo of Rhodes and Richardson have combined for 18 goals so far this season, which ranks fourth nationally for top scoring duos.
Between the posts, Laura Nielsen has recorded 75 saves and 4.41 saves per game to rank second in league standings in both categories. Her .773 save percentage is fifth amongst all SEC goalkeepers.
Missouri will arrive in Lexington with a 6-9 mark on the season, including a 2-6 record in SEC action. The Tigers are fresh off an upset 2-1 win over No. 13 Ole Miss on Thursday, with their other conference victory coming at Florida on Oct. 10. The program is led by head coach Stefanie Golan, who is in her first season at the helm.
Leading the Tigers is Milena Fischer with five goals, 15 points, and 32 shots while Julissa Cisneros has a team-high six assists and 14 shots on goal. McKenna Sheehan and Sophia Worth have shared time between the posts this season, each starting six games and registering 32 and 31 saves, respectively. Sheehan owns a 0.667 save percentage while Worth’s is 0.721.
Sunday will be the 13th meeting between the Wildcats and Tigers in program history with Missouri leading the all-time series record at 9-2-1. Kentucky will seek to add a tally in the win column on games played in Lexington, which Missouri also owns at 3-1-1.
The last meeting between the two teams was on Nov. 1, 2020, in Columbia where Kentucky suffered a 4-1 loss. The Wildcats’ lone goal during the contest came from Rhodes on a converted penalty kick in the game’s final minute.
UK came out on top in a 2-1 decision the last time the two foes played at the Wendell and Vickie Bell Soccer Complex on Oct. 18, 2019. Bosco scored both of the Wildcats’ goals in the 30th and 52nd minutes with assists from Valdis Björg Sigurbjörnsdóttir and Richardson, respectively.
