Lance Lang Named SEC Men’s Newcomer of the Week
LEXINGTON, Kentucky – For the second time in the last three weeks, Kentucky sprinter Lance Lang was named Southeastern Conference Men’s Track and Field Newcomer of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday.
Lang, a redshirt freshman for outdoor track, won all three races he ran in the Kentucky Invitational, sweeping the sprint double and adding the 4×100-meter relay. He won the 100m dash finals in 10.29 seconds after taking the prelim with a 10.26 mark that is the sixth-fastest time in school history. Lang won the 200m with a 20.26 wind-aided time that would have been only .01 off the school record. The relay unit of Kennedy Lightner, Lang, Cameron Council and Dwight St. Hillaire blazed 39.54 seconds to claim that event.
Lang also received this accolade following the Tom Jones Memorial Meet, held April 16-17 at the University of Florida. In that meet, he won the 200-meter dash by edging Matthew Boling of Georgia, the current NCAA indoor 200m champion, with a time of 20.39 seconds. That time improved his standing in the No. 3 slot on the all-time UK outdoor list. Lang followed by running the opening leg of Kentucky’s 4x100m relay that finished first at the meet among collegiate teams. The time of 39.26 seconds is fourth in UK history and the first time that the UK top five has been cracked since 2009.
