Lance Lang Named SEC Men’s Newcomer of the Week

by Tony Neely

LEXINGTON, Kentucky – Lance Lang was named Southeastern Conference Men’s Track and Field Newcomer of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday.

Lang, a redshirt freshman for outdoor track, won the 200-meter dash at the Tom Jones Memorial Meet at the University of Florida. He edged Matthew Boling of Georgia, the current NCAA indoor 200m champion, with a time of 20.39 seconds.  That time improved his standing in the No. 3 slot on the all-time UK outdoor list. It was his fifth individual collegiate win, third in the 200m.

Lang followed by running the opening leg of Kentucky’s 4x100m relay that finished first at the meet among collegiate teams.  The time of 39.26 seconds is fourth in UK history and the first time that the UK top five has been cracked since 2009.
