Rhodes’ 11th Goal Not Enough as Kentucky Falls at Pittsburgh
PITTSBURGH – Competing in its first contest since November and its first match of the spring season, the University of Kentucky women’s soccer team lost to Pittsburgh in a 4-1 decision in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, on Monday afternoon.
In the final minutes of the game, Jordyn Rhodes and Julia Grosso helped spoil a Pittsburgh shutout as Rhodes took an assist from Grosso to punch in a header low and left of the keeper in the 87th minute. It marked Rhodes’ 11th goal of the season, which ranks as the second-most in the Southeastern Conference, while she leads the conference in goals per game with 1.1. It also marked Grosso’s first assist of the season.
The Wildcats recorded 11 shots in the contest, steering six of those on frame – Rhodes (2), Maria Olsen (2), Grosso (1) and Miranda Jimenez (1).
Brooke Littman played in the net for all 90 minutes as the Panthers took 13 shots, six on frame, while Littman recorded a pair of saves.
Freshman Anna Young received the first nod in her collegiate career, checking into midfield in the second half and playing for 25 minutes. The rookie didn’t see playing time in the fall while she recovered from an ankle fracture. Senior Miranda Jimenez also checked in to contest for the first time since irritating an injury against South Carolina last October, while the veteran collected 22 minutes on the frontline and taking one shot on goal.
The Wildcats drop to 1-6-3 on the unique season.
