Kentucky Baseball Hits Road For First Time In 2021
LEXINGTON, Ky. – Riding the momentum of a thrilling, four-run ninth inning rally to score a walk-off win on Tuesday night the Kentucky baseball team hits the road for the first time this season, traveling to Auburn for a weekend series.
Friday’s first pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET, while Sunday is a 2 p.m. start. Both of those games will be live streamed on SECN+/WatchESPN. Saturday’s game will be a national television broadcast on the SEC Network at 7 p.m. All three games are available on radio on 630-AM WLAP (Lexington) and 1080-AM WKJK (Louisville) or UKathletics.com.
The Wildcats (14-4, 2-1 SEC) have delivered walk-off wins twice in the past three games but were exceptionally impressive in erasing a 5-2 deficit against Butler earlier this week. After loading the bases with no outs the Cats got a two-run single from Trae Harmon and two-run, game-winning double from Coltyn Kessler to complete the comeback, all without giving up an out.
Now comes the challenge of carrying their strong play on the road, beginning with this weekend’s three-game series at Auburn. The Tigers (11-8, 0-3) had the unenviable task of traveling to Ole Miss in last week’s SEC-opening series and will be primed to get back on track. Meanwhile, UK had its season-opening series at North Carolina canceled and have not played a road game since opening the 2020 season at TCU.
Runs should be at a premium much of the weekend, as each team boasts strong starting pitching and quality bullpens. UK sophomore right-hander Cole Stupp will open things for the Cats on Friday night coming off a career-best effort that saw him win SEC Newcomer of the Week. Left-hander Mason Hazelwood and right-hander Zack Lee will follow on Saturday and Sunday, respectively.
