Wilby Resets 200 Free School Record, Rosely Wins 400 IM “B” Final
COLUMBIA, Mo. – Mason Wilby reset the school record in the 200 freestyle for the second time this week, as the University of Kentucky men’s swimming and diving team concluded its third day at the 2021 Southeastern Conference Championships inside Mizzou Aquatic Center on Thursday.
Mason Wilby won the 200 freestyle “B” final, earning ninth place on a school record 1:33.87. Earlier in the meet, the junior broke the 12-year-old school record on the lead leg in the 800 freestyle relay, earning a 1:34.04 split, helping the foursome to the ninth-fastest time in the nation. It is his only individual school record, while the Florida native also helped reset the 800 freestyle relay school record last season.
Following Wilby’s efforts, Jakob Clark finished in 15th place in the 200 freestyle, touching the wall in 1:35.67. Hank Siefert finished in 18th place in 1:36.13, while Louis Barker finished in 22nd place in 1:37.07.
Zane Rosely had a strong night in the 400 IM, competing in the first SEC Championships of his career. In preliminaries, the freshman set a personal record 3:47.52 to earn the ninth seed ahead of finals. There, he touched the wall in 3:44.84 to win the 400 IM “B” final and earn the second-fastest time in the event in program records. Daniel Orcutt took 16th place in 3:49.72. Kyle Barker earned a personal record 3:46.52 to win the “C” final, while Timmy Ellett took 24th place in 3:54.42.
The 2021 SEC Championships resume Friday for the 200 backstroke, 100 freestyle, 200 breaststroke, 200 breaststroke, 200 butterfly, 1,650 freestyle and the 400 freestyle relay. Preliminaries begin at 11 a.m. ET and finals begin at 7 p.m. ET, while fans can watch all of the action on SEC Network+.
