Cats Prepare for Top-20 Matchup at Mizzou
LEXINGTON, Ky. – The 12th-ranked Kentucky Wildcats (1-1, 1-0 Southeastern Conference) are set to make their official SEC road debut versus the 20th-ranked Missouri Tigers (0-2, 0-1 SEC) on Friday at 7 p.m. ET, televised on SEC Network.
After opening the 2021 season with a road trip to Tuscaloosa, Alabama, for what was deemed a non-conference matchup with the Crimson Tide on Jan. 8, Kentucky’s first effort that counted toward the SEC standings was a 196.225-194.575 victory over Auburn last week.
The Wildcats swept all five of the competition’s individual titles, with Josie Angeny earning two outright first-place finishes and Cally Nixon, Anna Haigis and Raena Worley capturing one apiece.
Nixon both earned the competition’s vault crown and reset a career high on the apparatus for the second consecutive week, gathering a 9.925 consensus from the judges. Angeny accomplished the same feats on uneven bars by way of a 9.900. On the following rotation, the Spring Hill, Tennessee, product captured the fourth balance beam win of her career with a 9.875.
The floor exercise title was awarded to Haigis, who earned her first collegiate victory on any event with a career-high 9.925. Worley was named the contest’s all-around champion with a grand total of 39.375, marking the first all-around win of her career.
Missouri began the year with a 196.150-194.250 loss at Georgia and fell 195.775-195.750 to Alabama in its home opener last Friday. The last meeting between the Tigers and Wildcats was a 196.525-195.500 win for the Cats on Jan. 10, 2020.
