Bourgois Named to 2020 SEC Community Service Team

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Kentucky men’s tennis senior César Bourgois was named to the 2020 Southeastern Conference Community Service Team on Thursday, becoming the fourth player in school history to garner the title in back-to-back seasons.

Leading his team in community service hours for the second consecutive academic year, Bourgois spent time working with God’s Pantry on campus, packaging and delivering food to local elementary schools in Lexington. The senior from Paris, France, served multiple hours at an event with Special Olympics Kentucky, participating in a bowling outing with the SOKY athletes. The bulk of Bourgois’ time, however, was dedicated to the Wildcat Tennis Club, teaching local youth the game of tennis.

Earlier this year, Bourgois was named to the Frank G. Ham Society of Character, honoring UK athletes who have shown an extraordinary commitment to academic excellence, athletic participation, personal development, career preparation and serving as a role model. Bourgois was also named to the SEC Academic Honor Roll in 2018 and 2019.

All SEC-sponsored sports have had a Community Service Team since 2004, with at-large teams for men’s and women’s sports being chosen from 1999-2003. Bourgois joins former Wildcats Chris Leeper (2010, 2011), Brett Johnson (2014 ,2015) and Nils Ellefsen (2016, 2017) as the program’s only two-time recipients.
