Holiday Who-be What-ee? Cats Host Terriers on Ugly Holiday Sweater Day

LEXINGTON, Ky. – The No. 9 University of Kentucky women’s basketball team will conclude non-conference play Saturday at 1 p.m. ET as it plays host to the Wofford Terriers inside Memorial Coliseum. The game will serve as UK’s annual Ugly Holiday Sweater game as fans are encourage to wear their favorite holiday attire to the game.
 
With attendance limited to 15% of normal arena capacity, the majority of tickets have been sold as full-season packages for women’s basketball and UK does not expect any general public ticket sales at this time. Fans are encouraged to check Ticketmaster.com for any ticket allotments that are returned and released closer to game days, as well as for verified resale tickets. Concession stands are reopen at Memorial Coliseum. Doors will open 1 hour prior to tip.
 
The game vs. Wofford will be streamed on SEC Network+ with Jeff Piecoro and Christi Thomas on the call. The action can also be seen through WatchESPN on computers, smartphones or tablets. Darren Headrick will have the call on the UK Sports Network on 630AM WLAP in Lexington. Live stats and free live audio will be available online at UKathletics.com.
 
Kentucky (6-1) is coming off its first loss of the season Wednesday as it fell at No. 24 DePaul, 86-82. The Wildcats outrebounded the Blue Demons and led at halftime, but could not find their defensive intensity in the second half allowing a season-high points in the loss. Four Wildcats scored in double figures, paced by 22 points and eight steals from Chasity Patterson, while Rhyne Howard and Dre’una Edwards each earned double-doubles. Howard scored 18 points with 12 rebounds, while Edwards also scored 18 points with 11 rebounds. Robyn Benton scored 12 points with six rebounds.
 
Patterson, Howard and Edwards are all averaging over 15 points per game this season for the Wildcats. Patterson is averaging a team-best 15.1 points per game, adding a team-best 21 assists and 30 steals. Her steal total currently ranks first in the nation as Patterson has recorded eight or more steals in two games this season. Howard and Edwards are each averaging 15.0 points per game. Howard has hit a team-best 11 3s and added 15 assists with 11 steals, while Edwards leads UK in rebounds with 9.0 per game and has six blocks.
 
Wofford enters Saturday’s game with a 3-2 record in its fifth season under head coach Jimmy Garrity. The Terriers have wins this season over Winthrop, High Point and UNC Asheville and losses at College of Charleston and Xavier. The Terriers ended the 2020 season with a 15-15 record, including its best ever conference record of 8-6.
 
As a team, Wofford is averaging 63.8 points per game hitting 36.9 percent from the field and 20.9 percent from 3. Niyah Lutz is the team’s leading scorer averaging 11.6 points per game with 4.4 rebounds per game and eight assists. Jackie Carman is averaging 9.6 points per game, while Alexis Tomlin is averaging 9.2 points with 6.8 rebounds per game.
 
This is the second all-time meeting between Kentucky and Wofford in women’s basketball with the Wildcats winning the first-ever meeting 67-57 on Jan. 7, 2008 in Lexington. Kentucky owns a 18-1 all-time record against teams that make up the current alignment of Southern Conference. Wofford is the second SoCon opponent that UK has faced this season. Last Sunday, UK defeated Samford 88-54 inside Memorial Coliseum.
