Weaver Named to FWAA Freshman All-America Team Watch List
University of Kentucky redshirt freshman outside linebacker J.J. Weaver has been added to the Football Writers Association of America (FWAA) Freshman All-America Team watch list, it was announced today.
Weaver, a native of Louisville, Kentucky, has played in nine games this season, totaling 33 tackles, a team-high tying 6.5 tackles for loss, two quarterback hurries, a half a sack and a pass breakup. In his first career start last week at No. 6 Florida, he totaled a career-high tying six tackles before going down with a season-ending injury to his right knee.
Previously this season, Weaver earned Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Week after totaling a career-high six tackles in Kentucky’s 34-7 win at No. 18/17-ranked Tennessee. He had 2.0 TFL, totaling -8 yards, including a three-yard TFL in the third quarter which helped force a punt that preceded a UK touchdown drive on the ensuing possession.
Seven semifinalists for FWAA Freshman of the Year will be released after the Dec. 12 games and three finalists will be named after the Dec. 19 football games.
The 20th annual FWAA Freshman All-America Team, along with the FWAA Freshman of the Year, will be announced in January.
