Azhani Tealer Wins SEC Defensive Player of the Week

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Kentucky Volleyball sophomore middle blocker Azhani Tealer was named the Southeastern Conference’s Defensive Player of the Week, the league office announced on Tuesday afternoon. It is the first-career weekly award for Tealer in her young Wildcat career.
 
Tealer a new career high with a .750 hitting percentage against Mississippi State in the first of two wins in the Magnolia State over the Bulldogs. In the match, she also recorded nine kills with zero errors on 12 swings, and tallied a career-high eight blocks in the match. Tealer also recorded seven kills and hit .455 on the match on Saturday with a dig and a quartet of blocks.
 
All said, Tealer hit a blistering .609 for the weekend and had 12 blocks, both of which are two-match series highs for the sophomore this season.
 
Kentucky closed its 2020 fall season as the only undefeated team in the Southeastern Conference, and will take at least a one-match lead into the spring season. More information on the spring season will be announced at a later date by the conference office, including dates, opponents, times and television assignments.
