UK Men’s Soccer to Welcome UAB For Saturday Home Finale
LEXINGTON, Ky. – Looking to complete its fall 2020 home slate unblemished, No. 4 Kentucky (4-1) is set to take on UAB (1-5) in a non-conference tilt on Saturday at 7 p.m. ET, broadcast live on ESPN+.
Redshirt senior Aimé Mabika will be honored with a special ceremony prior to kickoff.
Kentucky enters Saturday with a four-match winning streak in tow, most recently knocking off Mercer 3-1 last Wednesday. The Wildcats conceded the contest’s opening goal for the fourth time in five outings this fall but ultimately stormed back for a third two-score victory.
Kentucky is led on the season by six points apiece from Eythor Bjorgolfsson and Kalil ElMedkhar, who—along with Mabika, Daniel Evans and Bailey Rouse—have each scored a team-high two goals.
Over the past four years, Mabika has scored 10 goals and contributed to 27 shutouts by the Kentucky defense. He’s the reigning Conference USA Player of the Year and Co-Defensive MVP, as well as a back-to-back All-C-USA and United Soccer Coaches All-Southeast Region first-team selection, a four-time C-USA Commissioner’s Honor Roll member and three-time Fall Southeastern Conference Academic Honor Roll representative. He was a C-USA All-Tournament Team honoree and first-team United Soccer Coaches Scholar All-American last year, a third-team United Soccer Coaches All-American in 2018 and a SEC First-Year Academic Honor Roll member in 2016.
The Lexington native was chosen for the inaugural MLS College Showcase last December and has not missed a minute of action this season.
Kentucky commands a 10-6 lead—including three straight victories—in its all-time head-to-head series with UAB, a team with which it has shared a C-USA affiliation since 2005.
Following a player guest and coach guest attendance model, no ticket options for any UK soccer matches will be made available to the public at this time. For more information, visit the 2020 Soccer Gameday Information page throughout the season.
