UK Athletics’ Return to Activity Continues

LEXINGTON, Ky. – COVID-19 testing continues for student-athletes and staff who have been on campus this summer or have returned to campus recently. Details from the most recent testing include:
 

  • 201 student-athletes from football, women’s soccer, men’s soccer, volleyball, women’s basketball and swimming and diving were PCR (polymerase chain reaction) tested from July 24 – August 6.  Six were PCR positive.

 

  • 22 student-athletes from those sports had newly returned to campus and also underwent antibody testing during the initial screening process, with three positives.

 

  • 120 staff members from football, men’s basketball, women’s basketball, women’s soccer, volleyball, cheerleading, baseball, men’s soccer and swimming and diving were PCR tested from July 24 – August 6. Two were PCR positive.

 
Student-athletes and staff testing PCR positive were required to quarantine in accordance with CDC and local health department guidelines. UK Athletics will continue to actively monitor the situation surrounding COVID-19 and respond accordingly in collaboration with University of Kentucky leadership and the guidance of the Southeastern Conference Medical Task Force. UK Athletics plans to continue current mitigation strategies and evaluate the need for additional testing on a regular basis.
