Kentucky Women’s Tennis Named 2020 ITA All-Academic Team
LEXINGTON, Ky. – For the second straight summer, the University of Kentucky women’s tennis team received Intercollegiate Tennis Association All-Academic Team recognition after the program posted a 3.594 grade-point average in 2019-20.
Four members of the program were further recognized for their individual achievements in the classroom, as Diana Tkachenko, Anastasia Tkachenko, Akvile Paražinskaite and Maialen Morante were named ITA Scholar-Athletes.
To be named an ITA All-Academic Team, programs must have had a 3.2 GPA or above for the most recent academic year, and to be named an ITA Scholar-Athlete, one must have had at least a 3.5 GPA for the most recent academic year.
Kentucky experienced an unusual academic year that featured more than two months of classes held exclusively online. Even more so, the program just barely dipped their toes in the conference schedule before the season was abandoned because of the public health threat.
The program recorded a 2-2 Southeastern Conference record, which included wins over Texas A&M and Alabama. Kentucky ended the shortened season with a 9-6 record altogether.
The Tkachenko sisters and Paražinskaite were scheduled to graduate from the program at the conclusion of the spring season, however the ITA Scholar-Athletes accepted an additional year of competition granted to spring-sport student-athletes and will return for the 2020-21 season. Maialen earned a perfect 4.0 GPA in her rookie year and will return as a sophomore this fall.
