This Day in UK Athletics History: Bear Bryant Named to Cotton Bowl Hall of Fame (2000)

Former Kentucky football coach Paul “Bear” Bryant will be inducted into the Southwestern Bell Cotton Bowl Hall of Fame on May 17-18, 2000 in Dallas, Texas.
Bryant is one of seven inductees in the Cotton Bowl Hall of Fame Class of 2000. The other inductees are Texas quarterback Duke Carlisle, Texas A&M linebacker Johnny Holland, Texas A&M fullback John Kimbrough, announcer Lindsey Nelson, Navy quarterback Roger Staubach, and Texas Christian halfback Jim Swink. Making the acceptance for Bryant will be former Alabama linebacker Lee Roy Jordan.
Bryant was head coach of the Wildcats from 1946 to 1953. Bryant took UK to the Cotton Bowl on Jan. 1, 1952, a 20-7 win over Texas Christian.
