Sabrina Haines Named CoSIDA Academic All-District First Team

OXFORD, Miss. – University of Kentucky women’s basketball senior guard Sabrina Haines has been named a College Sports Information Directors of America Academic All-District First-Team honoree for her hard work and dedication in the classroom over her career.
 
Haines was one of 42 division I women’s basketball players to be honored nationwide as the senior was tabbed to the six-member district 3 team. The 2019-20 Academic All-District® Women’s Basketball Teams, selected by CoSIDA, recognizes the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances on the court and in the classroom.
 
First-team Academic All-District® honorees advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America® ballot. First-, second- and third-team (if applicable) Academic All-America® honorees will be announced between March 9-12.
 
Haines graduated in December of 2019 with a degree in journalism (print multimedia) earning an impressive 3.938 cumulative GPA. Last year, she was named to the Southeastern Conference Academic Honor Roll and has helped Kentucky maintain an overall team GPA of 3.0 for 13 straight semesters. Haines is one of four current Wildcats that have already received their degree.
 
The senior guard has been a big-time player for the Wildcats on the court this season, averaging 10.2 points per game and 4.1 rebounds per game while leading UK by hitting 41.6 percent from long range. Haines has hit a 3-pointer in 20 of her 24 games played, including three or more 3s in nine games. The native of Phoenix has scored 10 or more points in 15 games, including 15 or more points in four games. Haines has led UK in scoring three times, assists three times and steals five times.
 
Haines’ best games this season have come at key times for Kentucky as she scored 15 points against highly ranked Texas A&M going 5-of-8 from the field and 3-of-5 from long range with five rebounds and three assists. She also scored 11 points against Tennessee going 3-of-6 from long range with four assists while she has really been on target in league play hitting two or more 3s in seven of her last 11 games. Haines scored a team-high 17 points against Auburn, including hitting four 3s with five rebounds.
 
Kentucky will return to action tonight at Ole Miss at 8 p.m. ET on SEC Network+ before hosting No. 1 South Carolina on Sunday for a 2 p.m. ET tip on ESPN2.
